THE WONDERS OF THANKSGIVING
Rev. Adewale & Chinenye Adesida
Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.
— 1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT
All those who truly do the will of God strive to be thankful in all situations. They don't just thank God, but they also thank men. Did you know that, according to 2 Timothy 3:2, one of the signs of the last days is that men will be unthankful? People who are led by the Holy Ghost are neither selfish nor ungrateful.
How thankful are you to God and the people He has used to bless or help you? As a child of God, don't expect anyone to thank you, but thank everyone who blesses you. Expecting men to thank you for anything means that you are taking God's place. Some people will thank you for something you have done for them. That is fine, but be careful to return the glory to God. Don't get angry when men do not thank you. God will thank you. Remember that you are to do everything as unto the Lord.
Thanksgiving will bring you more blessings than you can imagine. Do you remember the account of the ten lepers in Luke chapter 17? After the Lord healed them as they were on their way to the priest, only one of them returned to give thanks to the Lord. He did not do it secretly. He shouted at the top of his voice. As a result, the Lord made him whole.
Give thanks for life. Give thanks for the food you have eaten this year. Thank God for the general things He does and He will do something special for you. All ten lepers were healed. It was a general miracle, so the nine went on. But the one who thanked the Lord for something He did not do for him alone got "wholeness" as a reward. The thankful will always get more.
A sister who loves to give thanks experienced the power of thanksgiving one day. It happened that she was broke and someone blessed her with some money. Immediately after receiving the gift, she thanked the Lord with great joy and thanked the fellow excitedly. After a few minutes, the one who gave her the money walked away and returned with thrice the initial amount and blessed the sister again. For being thankful, the sister received three times what she got at first. God has something special for you today. Thank Him and thank those He has ever used to bless you. Stay thankful and see the wonders of thanksgiving.
1. Give praise to God for the gift of another day and thank Him for specific things that He has done for you. 2. Pray that the Lord will manifest His goodness to many through you. Ask Him for the desires of your heart. 3. Pray that the Lord will open the eyes of believers everywhere on earth to the power of gratitude and thanksgiving. 4. Ask the Lord to strengthen His missionaries and their families. Pray that the Gospel will spread in your country and that many souls will be won to the Lord in this month. 5. Ask the Lord to reign in the lives of widows, widowers, orphans, single parents and motherless and fatherless children. Give God thanks for the answers to your prayers.
We will always have reasons to grumble, but we have even more reasons to be grateful. When in doubt, list them out.
